The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Construction Plant or Machinery Maintenance allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their area of work and expertise.
This qualification covers areas such as general workplace health, safety and welfare; productive work practices; and removing and replacing plant or machinery components.
This qualification has been designed by the CITB Sector Skills Council to ensure relevance to the sector.
Successful candidates will gain an internationally-recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
Level 2 SVQ (SCQF level 5)
Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence. The assessor will need to visit you at your place of work.
Qualification Structure
Candidates must achieve all 9 mandatory units below:
1) Conform to General Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare
2) Conform to Productive Work Practices
3) Move, Handle or Store Resources
4) Operate Plant Machinery or Machinery for Non-Operational Purposes
5) Service Plant or Machinery
6) Remove and Replace Plant or Machinery Components to Restore Operational Use
7) Dismantle and Assemble Plant or Machinery Components to Replace Worn, Damaged or Faulty Parts
8) Inspect Plant or Machinery for Operational Serviceability
9) Diagnose Faults in Plant or Machinery Systems or Components
Candidates

must also achieve 2 choice units:
1) Install, Repair or Modify Construction Resources by Heating, Welding, Brazing, Soldering and Thermal Cutting
2) Produce One-Off Components to Restore or Maintain the Operational Functions of Plant or Machinery
3) Install Plant or Machinery for Operational Activities
4) Carry Our Specific Tests on Plant or Machinery to Determine Operational Serviceability
5) Configure Plant or Machinery for Specific Operational Activities
6) Hand Over Plant or Machinery to the Control of Others
